Our Why

This is a beautiful ministry, but it requires a tremendous amount of effort from staff and committed volunteer members each and every week. This is difficult work, and there have been many bumps along the road toward launching the Dinner Church Gatherings and purchasing and operating 90 Maple as a Warming and Community Center.  You might be asking, “why do we this?” or perhaps you are asking, “is this worth it for me to get involved?” While we can’t answer that question for you there are two reasons why we do this and invite you to join.  Firstly, the teachings of Jesus confirm that this is all worth it. Jesus is our first why.  Secondly, we see the need right in front of us, and we believe we have the capability to meet some of that need in the name of Christ. The need in front of us is also our why.

Jesus Tells Us To Love the Poor & Vulnerable

Jesus tells us that loving the vulnerable is worth it! Jesus tells us the nations will be divided at the end of time based on how we treat the least of these. He said that whatever we do for the least of these, we do for him. He gave examples such as feeding the hungry, giving water to the thirsty, clothing the naked, and visiting those in prison. It is crucial to recognize that hurting, lonely,  and homeless people are Jesus people. How we treat them is how we treat Jesus.

We See Our Neighbors in Need

The second reason for helping those in need is that there are people suffering in our community right now. We can see the need right in front of us. Our neighbors, who we now know and share meals with, are hurting. They need help, and the resources exist in our community to give some hope and healing to these hurting neighbors.

These are my neighbors left on the side of the road. We can’t see this need, ignore it, and walk right on by.  Our light is to shine for the sake of others.

This ministry is more than a meal and a building; it's a commitment to love and serve our vulnerable neighbors, to provide shelter where there is none, and to create a lasting legacy of compassion and resilience in Jesus’ name. To continue this commitment, we need lots of support from those who believe in our “why” and are inspired to join the mission.
